I absolutely love this car and I find myself smiling like an idiot when I drive it. Even an automatic transmission cant fully blunt its scrappy personality and deliriously fun driving dynamics.
A lot of this fun has to do with how it sounds; the Abarth 500 easily wins the biggest-noise-from-the-smallest-car competition. Especially in Sport mode, the Fiat snaps, crackles and burbles away, shouting its rude intentions to all the bigger cars out there. Its fun hearing the teeny turbo spooling up and then a loud pop from the exhaust as the transmission shifts and lets off steam.
The best thing about the Abarth is how it makes you feel like a criminal, like youre getting away with something, except you dont actually need to break any laws to really enjoy driving it. Its driving limits arent so high as to need a racing background to fully exploit its capabilities it feels much faster than it actually is. Push the SPORT button then gun it and the power delivery is mostly smooth and the Abarth feels legitimately quick.
This car is just so much fun I found myself looking for reasons to leave the yard just so I could drive the little red Italian rocket. Its been well maintained with cambelt replaced at 48,396km, car has now travelled 69,187km.
